Unusual Pair of Secretaires. French c 1945

A matched pair of metamorphic secretaires in a straight grained quartered walnut veneer. All metal work in nickel-plated bronze. Cleverly designed to provide two writing positions: with only one flap extended as a normal secretaire, or with both flaps extended as a good size desk space (could even be a breakfast/dining table in an interior where space is at a premium) Legs screw in to the underside of each flap to provide excellent stability. Lower section with a single shelf. Each secretaire stands on a stylish tapered foot with nickelled bronze trim detail. Dimensions are: 73" high (185cm) 31 1/2" wide (80cm) and 18" deep (46cm) - with one flap lowered the depth is 35" (89cm) and with both flaps lowered 70" (180cm).
